Solution

Glands: These are vital organs in our body and serve by secreting certain substances that perform necessary bodily functions.

Glands in the human digestive system: The human digestive system includes glands like the salivary gland, gastric gland, liver, and pancreas.

  1. Salivary gland: The saliva is secreted from this gland and it has the salivary amylase enzyme which acts upon the starch and forms maltose and dextrin.
  2. Gastric glands: It is located within the stomach walls and releases HCl which activates the pepsin enzyme in the stomach and breaks down the proteins.
  3. Liver: It is the largest gland in the human body, brown in colour, and produces bile which is used for the breakdown of fats in the small intestine.
