Solution

Parturition:

  1. Parturition is the process of expulsion of the fetus from the mother's body.
  2. The process of parturition is induced by both nervous and hormones secreted by the endocrine glands of the mother.
  3. A fully matured fetus and placenta give rise to signals for childbirth which induce mild uterine contractions known as fetal ejection reflex.
  4. This causes a quick release of large amounts of oxytocin from the maternal posterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
  5. This sets up a cycle as more oxytocin will be secreted due to uterine contractions.
  6. The uterine contractions now become strong enough to eject the fetus.
  7. Therefore, the hormone oxytocin is associated with the vigorous contractions of the uterine muscles during the process of parturition.
