  5. Placenta formed during pregnancy acts as an endocrine tissue by secreting hormones such as human chorionic gonadotropin, estrogens, and progesterone.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG):

  1. It is known as the hormone of pregnancy.
  2. It is secreted within 15 days of fertilization and can be detected by a urine test.
  3. The presence of this hormone in the urine indicates pregnancy.
