Glucagon:

  1. Glucagon is a peptide hormone secreted by the alpha cells of Islets of Langerhans of the pancreas.
  2. Glucagon is an antagonist to insulin i.e its effect is opposite to insulin.
  3. Whenever blood sugar level falls below normal, the pancreas secretes glucagon.
  4. As an effect, it raises the blood sugar level to normal by stimulating the liver and skeletal muscles to convert the stored glycogen into glucose.
  5. The process of conversion of glycogen into glucose is known as glycogenolysis.
