Solution

Glucagon:

  1. Glucagon is the hormone released by the alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas.
  2. It is involved in increasing blood sugar levels when it falls too low and makes them stable.
  3. It stimulates the liver to undergo glycogenolysis to convert stored glucose to a usable form and release it into the blood.
  4. Glucagon also helps the body to make glucose from other sources such as amino acids by a process known as gluconeogenesis
  5. Thus, the hormone that releases glucose into the blood is glucagon.
