Open in App
Solution

Calcitonin is a hormone which is released by the parafollicular cells (C-cells) of the thyroid gland when the blood calcium level is high. It decreases the calcium level in the blood. It is also important to note here that it plays the opposite role to the PTH (Parathyroid) hormone which increases blood calcium level.
