  • The pituitary is located at the base of the brain.
  • The hormones secreted are :
  1. Growth hormone - stimulates the growth of bones.
  2. Adrenocorticotropic hormone - stimulates the adrenal gland and thus secreting its hormones.
  3. Thyroid-stimulating hormone - stimulates the thyroid gland for the secretion of thyroxine.
  4. Prolactin - stimulates milk production.
  5. Follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) - control the growth of gonads and associated with secondary sexual functions.
  6. Luteinizing hormone(LH) - control menstrual cycle and ovulation.
  7. Oxytocin - uterine contraction during Labour and milk ejection during lactation.
  8. Antidiuretic hormone - acts are the level of the nephron and thereby regulating water levels in the body.
