FSH is secreted by anterior pituitary gland. It stimulates growth, development and hormonal secretion of Graafian follicle and ovum maturation during the follicular phase of the ovarian cycle. The increase of oestrogens levels, as secreted by developing Graafian follicle, exert positive feedback over the hypothalamus and increase GnRH secretion. GnRH stimulates secretion of LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary. The ovarian follicular phase coincides with menstruation and then proliferative phase in the uterus.
