Solution

Water Cycle:

  • The water cycle, also named as the hydrologic cycle or the hydrological cycle, is a biogeochemical cycle that describes the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth.
  • It is known as a complex cyclic system that generally consists of many different processes or components.

The important components of the water cycle:

  • The important components related to the water cycle are given as : Evaporation; Condensation; Precipitation; Surface Runoff; Infiltration; Transpiration or Evapotranspiration.
  • Evaporation: Evaporation is known as the process where a liquid converts from its liquid state to the gaseous state.
  • Condensation: Condensation is the opposite of evaporation, which is known as the process where gas gets changed into a liquid.
  • Precipitation: Formation of droplets or larger raindrops from small water droplets in clouds, when the temperature and atmospheric pressure are adequate, is called precipitation.
  • Surface Runoff: Surface runoff is considered an important part of the cycle as, through surface runoff, the water returns to the oceans, where a great deal of evaporation occurs.
  • Infiltration: Infiltration is known as an important process where rainwater gets soaked into the ground, through the soil and underlying rock layers.
  • Transpiration or Evapotranspiration: This process is basically known as the evaporation through plant leaves, where the plants absorb water from the soil, which then moves from the roots through the stems to the leaves.

Hence, the name of the important components of the water cycle are : Evaporation; Condensation; Precipitation; Surface Runoff; Infiltration; Transpiration or Evapotranspiration.
