Question

Name the instrument used to measure the potential difference across the circuit?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Potential difference is measured using a device called a voltmeter.
  2. Just like ammeters, some types have a pointer on a dial, but most have a digital display.
  3. Unlike an ammeter, you must connect the voltmeter in parallel to measure the potential difference across a component in a circuit.
  4. We use a voltmeter to measure terminal potential difference (or voltage). The potential difference (which is the same as voltage) is equal to the amount of current multiplied by the resistance.
  5. An ideal voltmeter has infinite resistance.
