Open in App
Solution

  1. Mass: The amount of substance contained in a body is called mass.
  2. SI unit of kilogram(kg).
  3. Mass can be measured by beam balance and electronic balance.
  4. The physical balance or called the beam balance was the first instrument which is used to measure the solid mass.
  5. It contains a pivoted horizontal lever having the same lengths as the arms. This is called the beam. It has two pans in which the standard weights and the solid substance are to be placed.
  6. The unknown mass is placed in the right pan and the standard pans are placed in the left pan, generally. We want to balance the beam so that the beam is completely horizontal.
  7. Now calculate the total mass of the standard weights and find out the mass of the unknown substance
