Name the largest and the smallest planets

Open in App
Solution

Step1: Largest planet

  1. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system – more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined.
  2. Jupiter's stripes and swirls are actually very cold, windy clouds of ammonia and water float in an atmosphere that contains hydrogen and helium.
  3. As it is the biggest planet in the solar system, it is the most gravitationally powerful.
  4. Every other planet or object bends to it, even the mighty sun wobbles a bit thanks to Jupiter's irresistible sway.

Step2: Smallest planet

  1. Mercury is the smallest planet in our Solar System.
  2. It orbits the Sun and takes 87.97 Earth days to do so.
  3. It rotates on its own axis exactly three times for every two revolutions it makes around the Sun.

Thus, the largest planet is Jupiter and the smallest one is mercury in our solar system.
