The elements are arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns. This arrangement is called periodic table.

Step-2: Arrangement of elements

The scientists namely, Dobereiner, Newlands and Mendeleev worked on the periodic table arrangement. They gave three types of law.

  1. The law of triads
  2. The law of octaves
  3. The periodic law.

The law of triads was given by Dobereiner, the law of octaves by Newlands and the periodic law by Mendeleev.

The elements were arranged according to increase in atomic masses there was much similarity in the properties of every eighth element.
