Solution

  1. Greenhouse gases (GHGs) trap the infrared radiations (IR) coming from the Sun.
  2. They re-radiate it back to Earth’s atmosphere.
  3. Due to this, they are responsible for increasing the temperature of the atmosphere.

Major greenhouse gases are:

  1. Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  2. Water Vapour
  3. Methane (CH4)
  4. Ozone (O3)
  5. Nitrous oxide (NO)
  6. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC)

Due to human intervention, the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has increased remarkably causing global warming.
