Solution

Microorganisms:

  1. Microorganisms are visible only when they are seen through a microscope.
  2. Examples: protozoa, algae, bacteria, and fungi.
  3. Sometimes virus is also classified as microorganisms.
  4. Bacteria such as Rhizobium, Azotobacter, and certain blue-green algae present in the soil fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil.
  5. But Rhizobium plays a vital role in nitrogen fixation.

Rhizobium:

  1. It attaches to the roots of the plant and produces nodules.
  2. These nodules fix atmospheric nitrogen and convert that nitrogen into ammonia.
  3. It can be used for the growth and development of plants.
  4. Rhizobium functions by residing in a symbiotic relationship with the roots of higher plants.
