Iodine is the non-metal used to make an antiseptic solution called tincture. The plant extract dissolved in ethanol is known as tincture and it has antiseptic properties which prevent the growth of bacteria. Tincture of iodine contains 2-7% of iodine along with sodium or potassium iodide dissolved in ethanol and water. It is applied on cuts and wounds to heal them.
