The process of maintaining water balance in the body is known as osmoregulation.
Besides being excretory in function, kidney is osmoregulatory in nature.
If the blood is too dilute, less water is reabsorbed; leaving more to enter the urinary bladder and pass out in urine.
If there is a shortage of water in the body due to profuse sweating, a small volume of concentrated urine is produced.
