Solution

Cochlea:

  1. The cochlea is spiral-shaped and technically a bone that is located in the inner ear
  2. It contains two types of fluids perilymph and endolymph.
  3. The cochlea has a vital role in the function of hearing.
  4. Sound vibrations collected from the external ear and middle ear vibrate the stapes which open into the inner ear and transmit the vibration to the perilymph.
  5. Perilymph is the fluid inside the cochlea which further transmits the sound vibrations to the hair cells of the Organ of Corti.
  6. The Organ of the Corti when stimulated sends vibrations to the brain via auditory nerves.
  7. The spiral structure of the cochlea helps in the transduction of the sound vibrations.

Hence, the cochlea is located in the inner ear and is involved in auditory transduction.
