When sodium propionate is heated with $N a O H + C a O$ (soda lime). It gives ethane and sodium carbonate as the products. This reaction is called decarboxylation reaction. The chemical equation involved in the reaction is as follows:
$C_{2} H_{5} C O O N a + N a O H \to C_{2} H_{6} + N a_{2} C O_{3}$
