Bacillus anthracis is the organism that causes anthrax in cattle.
Although not as frequently diagnosed with B. anthracis infection as cattle, horse do develop disease and die from anthrax. After an incubation period of about 3 to 7 days, horses usually develop the acute form of anthrax, although sudden death may occur.
