Renal medulla

  1. A cross-section of the kidney displays an outer dark renal cortex and inner light renal medulla.
  2. The renal medulla has an overall striped appearance and is lighter compared to the renal cortex.
  3. Nephrons, the basic functional units of kidneys have the following parts- glomerulus, Bowman's capsule, proximal convoluted tubule (PCT), the loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule (DCT), and collecting ducts.
  4. The part of the nephron that lies in the renal medulla is the loop of Henle.
