Definition: Transpiration is the loss of water from the plant in the form of vapor.

  1. The stomata are the tiny pores present under the surface of leaves.
  2. There are three types of transpiration; stomatal transpiration (which takes place with the aid of stomata), cuticular transpiration (which takes place vis cuticle of the plant) and lenticular transpiration (which occurs with the aid of lenticels).
  3. The stomata are where the maximum transpiration occurs (85-90%).
