Name the particles which make up matter.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Matter: Anything that occupies space and has mass is known as matter.
  2. The particles which make up matter are atoms or molecules.
  3. Atoms are themselves made up of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
  4. Molecules are made up of atoms that are held together by chemical bonds.

Characteristics of the matter:

  1. The particles of matter attract each other.
  2. The particles of matter are very, very small.
  3. The particles of matter are constantly moving.
  4. The particles of matter have inter-particle spaces between them.

Example of the matter:

A glass of water has many water particles which are very minute. Water particles can actually be divided into even smaller units. The pieces of matter that result from dividing a water particle are no longer water. They are examples of the most basic units of matter called atoms.

The particles which make up matter are atoms or molecules.
