  • Nucleus consists of three main parts—nuclear membrane, nucleoplasm and nucleolus
  • Nuclear pore:Helps in the movement of substances in and out of the nucleus.
  • ​Nuclear membrane​:The protective barrier of the nucleus.​
  • Nucleoplasm:The cytoplasm of the nucleus​.
  • Nucleolus​:Core of the nucleus where ribosomes are synthesised.[ 3 Marks]

Functions of Nucleus:​
  • It plays an important role during cell division.​
  • It contains thread-like structures called chromosomes. ​
  • The chromosomes are made of genes (DNA) that help in the inheritance or transfer of characters from the parents to the offspring.​
  • Since the nucleus controls all the activities of the cell, it is called as controller of the cell. [2 Marks]
