- Nucleus consists of three main parts—nuclear membrane, nucleoplasm and nucleolus
- Nuclear pore:Helps in the movement of substances in and out of the nucleus.
- Nuclear membrane:The protective barrier of the nucleus.
- Nucleoplasm:The cytoplasm of the nucleus.
- Nucleolus:Core of the nucleus where ribosomes are synthesised.[ 3 Marks]
Functions of Nucleus:
- It plays an important role during cell division.
- It contains thread-like structures called chromosomes.
- The chromosomes are made of genes (DNA) that help in the inheritance or transfer of characters from the parents to the offspring.
- Since the nucleus controls all the activities of the cell, it is called as controller of the cell. [2 Marks]
