Solution

Cardiac cycle

  1. The series of events which occur during one complete beat of the heart is called cardiac cycle.
  2. Human heart beats 72 times per minute or one heartbeat is completed in 0.85 seconds.
  3. It consists of three phases:

Atrial or auricular systole

  1. During this phase auricles contract and push blood into corresponding ventricles.
  2. It is completed in 0.15 seconds.

Ventricular systole

  1. During this phase ventricles contract and push the blood into pulmonary arteries and aorta.
  2. It is completed in 0.30 seconds.
  3. During ventricular systole, the auricles are in diastole.

Joint Diastole

  1. It extends for 0.40 seconds during which all the four chambers of the heart are relaxed.

Thus phase of cardiac cycle in which the auricles contract is atrial or auricular systole.
