Solution

Photosynthesis takes place in the green plants and other green parts of the plants like stem etc. Photosynthetic pigments help plants in this process. Pigments are substances that have an ability to absorb light, at specific wavelengths. Following are the four pigments present in the leaf :
  1. Chlorophyll a
  2. Chlorophyll b
  3. Xanthophylls
  4. Carotenoids
Carotenoids are the photosynthetic pigment which can be converted to vitamin A. Carotenoid is the precursor of vitamin A. It is responsible for the yellow to the yellow-orange colour of the leaves. It is a secondary metabolite.
