  2. There are eight planets in the solar system. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
  3. The four inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are called terrestrial planets.
  4. The terrestrial planets have a dense, rocky surface, with few or no moons and no ring system.
  5. The four outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are called Jovian planets.
  6. The outer planets are having a large number of gases, so these planets are also called gas giants.
