Solution
Change in state of matter due to heat- increasing heat
Heating the matter increases the energy of particles whereas cooling the matter decreases the energy of particles.
This change in energy brings a change in the state of matter.
Solids changes into liquids, and liquids into gases, when particles of matter gain more kinetic energy.
When a solid is heated, its temperature increases.
Its particles gain kinetic energy from heat and start vibrating faster. This continues till the matter reaches its melting point.
It is a point when a further increase in heat does not increase the temperature.
If heat is continued at the melting point, a stage comes the force of attraction between them overcomes and the particles start moving away from their fixed positions, thus changing the solid to the liquid state.
On further heating, the particles keep gaining more kinetic energy and move faster till the temperature reaches the boiling point.
If heat is continued beyond the boiling point, the kinetic energy of the particles becomes so large that they overcome the inter-particle force of attraction and break away and move out into the space available, thus changing liquid states into gaseous state.
ie., at boiling point when water changes into gaseous state.
