The principle of froth flotation process is that sulphide ores are preferentially wetted by the pine oil, whereas the gangue particles are wetted by the water.
Froth flotation is a process for selectively separating hydrophobic materials from hydrophilic.
Since they are hydrophobic they can easily be wetted with pine oil and forms a froth which then raises the ores on the surface.
