Question

Name the process of conversion of ADP during the first phase of photosynthesis.

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis:

  1. The process by which plants produce carbohydrates as food is called photosynthesis.
  2. Photosynthesis has two phases: light reaction and dark reaction.

Light reaction

  1. During this step, photolysis of water molecules occurs that release electrons.
  2. These electrons are used to generate ATP (adenosine triphosphate) from ADP (adenosine diphosphate).
  3. The process of photophosphorylation forms ATP.
  4. During photophosphorylation, one phosphate is added to the ADP molecule in the presence of light (photo).

Dark reaction

  1. It is a light-independent reaction.
  2. It involves the reduction of carbon dioxide to form glucose.
