It is the process of loss of water in the form of water vapor from the aerial parts of plants, such as leaves and stems.

Types of transpiration:

  1. Transpiration in old woody stems occurs through lenticels and is called lenticular transpiration.
  2. Transpiration occurring directly from the surface of leaves and young stems through stomata is called stomatal transpiration.
  3. Transpiration occurring through the surface of leaves is called cuticular transpiration.
  4. A type of transpiration that occurs directly from the surface of leaves and stems is called stomatal transpiration.
