Transpiration:

  1. It is the process of loss of water in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of plants, such as leaves and stems.
  2. Transpiration in old woody stems of tall trees occurs through small pores in the bark of plants called lenticels.
  3. They are permanently open pores in the periderm of the bark.
  4. This type of transpiration through lenticels is known as lenticular transpiration.
  5. Minute openings on the bark of woody stem through which transpiration occurs are called lenticels.
