Calcium, magnesium, iron, etc are examples of metallic elements.
Metallic oxides:
Metals react with oxygen to form metallic oxides.
Metallic oxides are basic in nature as they react with water to form metal hydroxides(basic compounds).
For example, magnesium reacts with oxygen to form magnesium oxide,
$2 Mg + O_{2} \to 2 MgO$ .
Metal oxides turn red litmus to blue.
