Question

Name the products formed and write an equation when ethyne is added to the following in an inert solvent :

(b) Bromine

Open in App
Solution

Ethyne reacts with bromine to change into 1, 2-dibromoethene with carbon-carbon double bond.

This is called a bromination reaction.

C2H2 Br2 C2H2Br2

Then it gives 1, 1, 2, 2 - tetrabromoethane on further bromination.

C2H2Br2 Br2 C2H2Br4
