The ethereal solution is nothing but diethyl ether and when an ethereal solution containing ethyl iodide and methyl iodide is heated with sodium metal then a mixture of ethane, propane, and butane will be formed.
Explanation: When an alkyl halide is treated with an ethereal solution in presence of sodium metal then it will give higher alkanes. This is known as the Wurtz reaction.
