Reaction of Ethanol and Acetic acid in the presence of concentrated Sulphuric acid

  1. EthanolC2H5OH on reaction with Acetic acidCH3COOH in presence of conc. Sulphuric acidH2SO4, Ethyl acetateCH3COOC2H5 with the fruity smell is formed.
  2. The reaction is called esterification, the product being ester, Ethyl acetate.
