(i) Iron filings and sulphur
(ii) Ammonium chloride and camphor
(iii) Sulphur and carbon
(iv) Common salt dissolved in water

Solution

The property of the constituents which can be used to separate mixtures are:

(i) Iron filings and sulphur:

  1. The separation of iron filling and Sulphur is done with the help of a magnet.
  2. The iron posses magnetic properties, so it gets attracted to the magnet and as sulphur doesn't possess magnetic properties so it doesn't get attracted.

(ii) Ammonium chloride and camphor:

  1. A mixture of ammonium chloride and camphor can be separated by evaporation followed by dissolving the mixture in water.
  2. Ammonium is soluble in water but camphor isn't.
  3. Filter the mixture, camphor remains as residue and ammonium chloride is filtered out.
  4. During evaporation, water evaporates and ammonium chloride is left behind.

(iii) Sulphur and Carbon:

  1. The separation of sulphur and carbon is done by using a suitable solvent.
  2. It can be done by carbon disulphide solvent as sulphur dissolves in carbon disulphide while Carbon doesn't.

(iv) Common salt dissolved in water:

  1. This can be separated by the process of evaporation.
  2. This process involves separating any substance from its solution by removing water.
