3. Hemoglobin is a tetrameric protein and contains the heme prosthetic group attached to each subunit.
4. The characteristic red color of red blood cells is due to the presence of hemoglobin.
5. When this pigment binds with oxygen for transportation, it is called oxyhemoglobin. Some amount of carbon dioxide is also transported back via hemoglobin as carbaminohaemoglobin.
6. Each hemoglobin binds with 4 oxygen molecules at a time.
