There are three basic types of salivary glands:

1) Parotid glands

2) Submaxillary glands

3) Sublingual glands

The buccal cavity has three pairs of salivary glands.

  • The parotid glands lie on the sides of the face.
  • The sublingual glands lie under the front part of the tongue
  • The submaxillary glands lie at the angles of the lower jaw.
