Discovery of protons:

1. Some experiments were performed by Eugen Gold­stein on discharge tubes in the 1870s that led to the discovery of subatomic particles called protons.
2. Goldstein passed electricity at high voltage through gas at very low pressure, taken in a perforated discharge tube.
3. A positive electrode i.e. anode gave out streams of heavy particles.
4. These particles are called anode rays.
5. Anode rays are beams of positively charged protons.

Therefore, Eugen Goldstein was the scientist who discovered the proton.
