Solution

Organic compounds which contain the Carborxylic functional group (-COOH) are called Carboxylic acids. The general formula is CnH2n+1COOH. Their IUPAC names are the root word with the suffix ‘ic acid’.

Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH), is the second member of the Carboxylic acid (CnH2n+1COOH, where 'n' is the number of Carbon (C) atoms in the molecule, minus 1). It is also called Acetic acid.
