Solution
Litmus solution:
Litmus is a combination of organic substances obtained from lichens such as Lecanora tartare and Rocella tinctotum.
Lichen is a composite creature that develops from a mutualistic connection between algae and cyanobacteria.
Litmus solution is made by dissolving a natural dye derived from lichens in distilled water.
The purpose of this solution is to distinguish between acids and bases. When we add acid to the litmus solution, it turns red, and when we add a base, it turns blue.
Therefore, litmus solution is obtained from lichens and it is used in predicting the nature of the solution i.e. acid or base.
