Name the Subatomic Particles present in an atom of Sodium.

Open in App
Solution

According to the definition of Atomic Number(Z) and Mass number(A),

AtomicNumber(Z)=NumberofElectrons(e)=NumberofProtons(p)MassNumber(A)=NumberofProtons(p)+NumberofNeutrons(n)

  1. Atomic Number of Sodium is 11
Hence, Number of Electron = 11 and Number of Proton = 11
  2. Mass number of Sodium is 23
Since, the Number of Protons = 11, Number of Neutrons in Sodium 12. ( 23-11=12)
  3. Hence, In Sodium Atom three subatomic particles namely Electron, Proton and Neutron are present.
