Solution
Auxins have a very important role in coordination of many growth and behavioral processes in the plant's life cycle and are essential for plant body development. Naturally occurring auxins include indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), phenylacetic acid (PAA), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), etc. Synthetic auxin include 1-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and many others. Auxins promote root initiation and induce growth of pre-existing roots as well as adventitious roots. In horticulture, auxins, especially NAA and IBA, are commonly applied to stimulate root initiation in woody plants.
