Two immiscible liquids

Open in App
Solution

Different separation techniques are present depending upon the property of the substance to be separated-

  • If the mixture contains two immiscible liquids we can separate it using a separating funnel.
  • The mixture is taken in the separating funnel, and immiscible liquids form layers.
  • The liquid with lower density form the upper layer and the liquid with higher density form the lower layer.
  • we can open the stopper and the lower layer can be separated and the upper layer remains within the separating funnel and then separated.
  • Mixtures of alcohol and water can be separated by this method.
