Two biologically important compounds that contain both oxygen and nitrogen:
i) Nucleic acids (DNA and RNA)
Nucleic acids are biopolymers, or small biomolecules, essential to all known forms of life. They are composed of monomers, which are nucleotides made of three components: a 5-carbon sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogenous base.
ii) Proteins
Proteins are made up of smaller building blocks called amino acids, joined together in chains.Amino acids are organic compounds containing amine (-NH2) and carboxyl (-COOH) functional groups, along with a side chain (R group) specific to each amino acid.
