Placenta:

  1. The organ by which the embryo is attached to the wall of the uterus is called the placenta.
  2. It acts as an endocrine hormone and secretes hormones estrogen and progesterone during the last six months of pregnancy.

Estrogen:

  1. Promotes the onset of secondary sexual characters.
  2. Controls the menstrual cycle.
  3. Stimulates the uterus to prepare for pregnancy.

Progesterone:

  1. Prepares the inner lining of the uterus for implantation of the zygote.
  2. Plays an important role during several months of pregnancy by which the placenta works over it.
  3. Supports a healthy pregnancy.

The two hormones which are secreted by the placenta are Estrogen and Progesterone.
