  1. Mitosis is the type of cell division that occurs during the growth of a shoot.
  2. Due to the fact that mitosis is also known as equational division, the length and width of the shoot increase as it grows.
  3. Mitosis occurs in somatic cells or in all body cells except germ cells.
  4. A single cell nucleus divides to produce two daughter nuclei, which contain the same chromosomes as in a parent cell.
  5. It is followed by the equivalent division of the cytoplasm. This causes an increase in the number of cells.
