Solution

Alternating current (AC):

  1. The type of current, which is used in household supply is AC current.
  2. It is defined as that type of electric current that periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time.
  3. It starts from zero and then it grows to a maximum value, then it further decreases to zero value, then it reverses, and reaches a maximum value in the opposite or negative direction, then returns again to its original value, and repeats this cycle regularly.
  4. Alternating current is used in households because it is easier to distribute it over large distances with comparatively low losses, and also it is safer for the same voltage if touched by a human accidentally.
  5. Also, alternating current is comparatively cheaper to generate than direct current. Hence AC is used.

Thus, alternating current is used in houses.
