Name The Type Of Quadrilateral Formed By The Following Points -(−1,−2),(1,0),(−1,2),(−3,0) And Give Reasons For Your Answer

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Find the distance between the points using the distance formula.

Let the points are A(−1,−2),B(1,0),C(−1,2),D(−3,0).

Know that the distance(d) between the points x1,y1and x2,y2 is-

d=x2-x12+y2-y12

Find the length of side AB:

AB=1+12+0-22=4+4=8=22

Step 2: Find the length of side BC:

BC=-1-12+2-02=4+4=8=22

Step 3: Find the length of side CD:

CD=-3+12+0-22=4+4=8=22

Step 4: Find the length of side DA:

DA=-3+12+0+22=4+4=8=22

Step 5: Find the length of diagonal AC:

AC=-1+12+2+22=0+16=16=4

Step 6: Find the length of diagonal BD:

BD=-3-12+0+02=16+0=16=4

Since All sides of the quadrilateral are equal and diagonals are also equal.

Hence the Quadrilateral Formed By joining the Points -(−1,−2),(1,0),(−1,2),(−3,0) is a square.
